ECHO COLLECTIBLES
CO-FOUNDER & CO-CHAIRMAN
Mark Salzberg is a leader in the collectibles industry, having served as the Chairman of the Certified Collectibles Group (CCG) for more than 35 years before his retirement in 2023. He has provided exceptional service to the numismatic community thanks to his expertise.
Mark began his career as a coin dealer in 1978 before becoming a partner at Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) when it was an upstart coin grading service. Today, NGC is a highly respected source of third-party grading and conservation. He later founded Certified Collectibles Group (CCG), which became NGC’s parent company. Today, CCG has graded over eighty million collectibles, including over fifty-eight million coins through NGC, and was acquired by Blackstone in 2021. Thanks to Mark’s longtime leadership, CCG is a world leader in collectible authentication, having standardized the use of grading scales and transforming the field of numismatics as a result.
Most recently Mark was the recipient of the American Numismatic Society’s 2024 Trustees’ Award. On the award, ANS President Ute Wartenberg Kagan says, “It is hard to capture the impact that Mark has had on the numismatics field, not just coin collecting, and the ANS’s relationship with NGC and its staff has always been one of mutual support and high regard.”
Mark is a long-time member of the ANS, and has been featured as a guest lecturer for the Long Table series for his expertise on coin collecting. He has previously been honored by many other institutions, among them the American Numismatic Association as the 2006 Numismatist of the Year, and recipient of their 1998 ANA Presidential Award. In addition, he has been named twice on the Coin World list of “Most Influential People in Numismatics” in 2021 and 2022, and with his son Andy in 2023, and COINage recently named him one of the “Top 14 Numismatists of the Century.”
